Does your Declaration of Conformity need updating?

ETSI EN 301 489 V1.8.1 will cease to provide a presumption of conformity on 30th June 2013.  It will be superseded by ETSI EN 301 489-1 V1.9.2.

EN 301 489-1 is the EMC standard for radio equipment complying with the R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC) and contains the common technical requirements for almost all radio equipments falling within the scope of this directive (equipments used in the maritime environment are covered by other standards).

If you are continuing to place your product on the EU market after 30th June 2013 and your Declaration of Conformity references  EN 301 489-1 V1.8.1, you should update your Declaration of Conformity to reflect Version 1.9.2.

In most circumstances, when a standard has been superseded it is necessary to review the differences between the older standard and the latest one.  This may mean that additional testing is required.  ETSI has kindly published a Technical Report (ETSI TR 103 088  V1.1.1) detailing the differences in the various standards. The report states “There are no changes to any of the technical requirements defined in V1.8.1, thus meaning in many cases a test report showing compliance to EN 301 489-1 [i.2] V1.8.1 is also able to show compliance to EN 301 489-1 [i.2] V1.9.2.”

This means that your Declaration of Conformity can be updated without the need for additional testing.  You should annotate your product Technical File accordingly.
